Why I’m Running
Hope over fear. People before profit. Community over division.
I don't believe exploitation is the price of progress.
For far too much of history, we've been told that someone must be sacrificed so someone else can succeed—that workers should accept less so corporations can earn more; that families should shoulder rising costs while wealth accumulates at the top; that our water, our land, and our future can be exchanged for short-term profit; that democracy begins and ends on Election Day.
I reject that.
I've seen something different.
I've seen neighbors feed one another when the system fell short. I've seen young people step into leadership long before anyone gave them permission. I've seen communities organize—not because it was convenient, but because it was necessary.
That's Minnesota.
Not perfect. Never has been.
But resilient. Innovative. Compassionate. Courageous.
When the nation faces uncertainty, Minnesota has often shown what is possible—not because we always get it right, but because we're willing to ask difficult questions, challenge outdated systems, and imagine something better.
That spirit deserves representation.
At 30 years old, I'm running to bring a new generation of leadership to the Minnesota State Senate—leadership that listens before it speaks; collaborates before it divides; and measures success not by campaign contributions or corporate profits, but by whether our communities are healthier, safer, and more connected than they were before.
As a first-generation Senegalese American, Muslim woman, mother of two, community organizer, and political scientist, I understand that democracy isn't something we inherit.
It's something we build.
Every conversation.
Every neighborhood.
Every generation.
Government should answer to the people—not corporate interests; not concentrated wealth; not foreign influence; not any institution that places profit, power, or politics above the public good.
I believe housing is a human necessity—not a speculative commodity.
Healthcare is a right—not a privilege.
Education is a public investment—not an expense.
Clean water is a public trust—not a resource to be depleted for private gain.
Young people are not merely our future—they are our present, and they deserve a seat at the table today.
This campaign is about more than electing one senator.
It's about redefining what leadership looks like.
Leadership doesn't begin with authority.
It begins with service.
It isn't measured by how much power one person holds—but by how many people are empowered to lead alongside them.
My vision is simple:
A Minnesota where democracy extends beyond the ballot box...
Where communities have the power to shape their own future...
Where accountability replaces complacency...
Where dignity replaces exploitation...
And where every person—not just the wealthy, the well-connected, or the politically powerful—has the opportunity to live, contribute, and thrive.
That's the Minnesota I'm running for.

Our Vision
We envision a stronger, fairer, greener Minnesota:
A state where government works for ordinary people, where communities are invested in, where young people are supported, and where working families are not left behind.
We believe:
- Healthcare should be affordable and accessible
- Housing should be stable and attainable
- Workers deserve living wages and dignity
- Young people deserve opportunity and investment
- Public safety should include prevention, mental health, and community support
- Fresh and healthy food should be accessible in every community
- Climate action should protect future generations while creating jobs
- Democracy should belong to people — not corporations
Minnesota should be a place where everyone — regardless of income, race, religion, gender, sexuality, background, or political affiliation — can live with dignity, security, and hope.

My Priorities
- Housing Stability: Families across District 39 are feeling the pressure of rising costs. I support affordable housing expansion, renter protections, pathways to homeownership, and policies that help longtime residents remain in the communities they helped build.
- Economic & Workforce Stability: Working people are carrying the weight of an economy that too often benefits corporations first. I support living wages, workforce development, worker protections, support for small businesses, and policies that strengthen working families.
- Youth Investment & Leadership: Young people deserve more than survival — they deserve opportunity. I support mentorship, leadership development, education investment, mental health support, smaller classroom sizes, and community-centered programs that help youth thrive.
- Food Access: Every family deserves access to fresh and healthy food. District 39 lacks cooperative grocery investment and stronger local food infrastructure. I want to strengthen community-based food systems and partnerships that improve long-term food security and public health.
- Disability & Mental Health: Community safety means prevention, support, dignity, and stability. I support stronger disability services, mental health response systems, direct care workforce investment, and community-based approaches that keep people safe while reducing cycles of crisis.
Climate & Environmental Justice: Climate change is already impacting our communities. Minnesota must continue transitioning toward renewable energy, clean infrastructure, sustainability, and environmental policies that protect future generations while creating green jobs.
Democracy & Accountability: People deserve a government that listens. I support campaign finance reform, reducing corporate influence in politics, transparency in government, and expanding civic engagement so everyday people have a stronger voice in decisions affecting their lives.

Guiding Values
My approach to leadership is grounded in values that center people, community, and long-term responsibility. These include:
-
Grassroots democracy – ensuring decisions reflect the voices of the community
-
Social justice and equal opportunity – creating systems that are fair and inclusive
-
Respect for diversity – recognizing and valuing the communities that make up District 39
-
Sustainability – supporting solutions that work not just now, but long-term
-
Community-based decision making – keeping people at the center of policy and action
I’m proud to align with the values of the Green Party because they reflect a commitment to accountability, community voice, and systems that truly serve people.

A better Minnesota is possible.
And together, we can build it.
